We will be learning how to utilise LibreOffice Calc in this unit. The majority of functionalities in different spreadsheets
are the same.
3.2 STARTING LIBREOFFICE CALC
Following the given steps to create a spreadsheet using LibreOffice Calc:
Step 1: Click on the Start button. The Start menu will appear.
Step 2: Select the LibreOffice folder from the Start menu.
Step 3: Click on the LibreOffice Calc option.
Or
To start LibreOffice Calc, Double-click on the icon LibreOffice Calc on the desktop screen.
3.3 COMPONENTS OF LIBREOFFICE CALC WINDOW
The components of the Calc window that we will now discuss are as follows:
Title Bar Columns Control Buttons
Menu Bar
Standard Toolbar
Formatting Toolbar
Active Cell
Sidebar
Formula Bar
Rows
Horizontal Scroll Bar
Sheet Tab Status Bar Vertical Scroll Bar
3.3.1 Title Bar
It lies at the top of the window screen. It displays the name of the active spreadsheet. When the spreadsheet is newly
created, by default it is named as Untitled1, second is Untitled2 and so on.
3.3.2 Menu Bar
It lies below the title bar in the active window screen. It contains different menus which have many options to perform
various operations. Each menu item has a submenu called pull-down menu. The various menus are as follows:
• File: This menu contains commands like Open, Save, Wizards, Export as PDF, Print, Digital Signatures and so on.
These commands when selected, are applied to the entire document.
• Edit: This menu contains editing commands like Undo, Cut, Copy, Paste, Select, Find and Replace and so on.
• View: This menu contains commands like Toolbars, Freeze Rows and Columns, Full Screen, Zoom and so on. These
commands are used for modifying the user interface.
